FORMER Aston Villa player Lee Hendrie is to open a football academy at Studley Sports Centre.

The Lee Hendrie Football Academy will enable youngsters aged 16 upwards to complete a BTEC qualification while developing their football skills under the guidance of Hendrie and his coaching staff, including former Villa and Northampton Town professional Ryan Amoo.

Learners will be provided with up to 12 hours’ education to supplement the ten hours of football each week.

The four-acre leisure complex has a 3G all-weather training pitch, a full size grass pitch and several small-sided pitches as well as three classrooms on site.

An open day will be held at Studley Sports Centre on Thursday (March 24) from 6.30 to 9pm where youngsters and their parents can meet Hendrie and learn more about the academy.

“Our aim is to provide learners with the perfect opportunity for playing football and studying and at the same time, the discipline needed to focus and work hard to achieve their goals,” said Hendrie.

“Ryan and I have some very good contacts within the game and we plan to set up showcase games against Premiership and Football League academies.

“The level of training and competition will help raise a player’s level of play to new heights and will definitely benefit the student in his future playing years.”
