Event pledges to answer "what was Shakespeare really like?"

A SPECIAL event promising fresh insights into the real Shakespeare is taking place at Holy Trinity Church in Stratford.

‘What Was Shakespeare Really Like?’ marks the publication of a new book by internationally renowned Professor Sir Stanley Wells CBE, widely regarded for decades as the world’s leading Shakespeare scholar.

In the book he brings a lifetime of learning and reflection to bear on some of the most tantalising questions about the poet and dramatist – how did he think, feel, and work? What were his personal relationships like? What ‘manner of man’ was he? What made him laugh?

And in the week of the book’s publication, Sir Stanley will be in conversation with Rev Dr Paul Edmondson from The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.

Rev Dr Edmondson said: “’What Was Shakespeare really Like?’ raises questions that few would dare to answer. But Sir Stanley can, and he’s not afraid to do so, because of his lifetime of friendship with Shakespeare. If anyone can shed more light onto Shakespeare’s inner life, it’s Sir Stanley.”

What Was Shakespeare Really Like? takes place on Thursday September 21 from 7.30pm until 9pm.

Tickets are £5 in advance from www.shakespeareschurch.co.uk/events

All proceeds will go to support the Friends of Shakespeare’s Church.
