DVLA clamping down on untaxed cars in district

Stratford Editorial 2nd Mar, 2017   0

THE DVLA have been clamping down on untaxed cars in Stratford district.

A total of 22 vehicles were clamped between February 13 and 21.

Drivers will have to pay a release fee of £100 and if they cannot show the vehicle has been taxed they will also have to pay a surety fee of £160 – refunded if the vehicle is taxed within 15 days.

The DVLA tend to send out late licensing penalties in the post but its wheel-clamping partner NSL also enforces untaxed parked vehicles.

A DVLA spokesman said: “It’s an offence not to tax a vehicle before it’s driven on the road.

“While DVLA does tell drivers when their tax is due by sending reminders and last chance notices, action will be taken against those who don’t tax their vehicles.

“Nearly 99 per cent of vehicles on the road are taxed correctly so the overwhelming majority of motorists pay their tax.”
