PUBLIC sex hotspots are rife in the area, according to a website for swingers.

Swinging Heaven names 112 ‘dogging’ sites in Birmingham and Warwickshire – including a number across South Warwickshire.

They include sites in and around Warwick, Shipston, Alcester, Long Marston and Hampton-in-Arden.

Ch Insp Neil Harrison of Warwickshire Police said the force was aware a number of locations in the county had been named as popular locations for sexual activity in public.

He said: “While there is no specified offence in respect of this type of activity, there are likely to be contraventions against common law and other specific legislation.

“These may include outraging public decency, behaviour that is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress contrary to the Public Order Act 1986; exposure offences, if a person engaged in the act exposes themselves to someone intending to cause alarm or distress; and engaging in sex in a public toilet.

“The role of the police is protect and uphold the human rights of our communities and this includes people affected by sexual activity in public and those who engage in such activity.

“Upon receipt of reports of behaviour which is illegal or offensive Warwickshire police will investigate and deal with those people responsible appropriately.”
