Brothers driving on at Johnsons after 35 years

SIBLING rivalry is not a problem for Peter and John Johnson who have been working together for 35 years.

The brothers took over the driving seat as directors of the family’s Henley-based coach business back in July 1979.

Stepping into the shoes of parents, Roy and Joan Johnson when the firm was only operating three coaches, a furniture removal lorry and a taxi, they are now celebrating success more than three decades on with almost 100 coaches and buses operating from a purpose built site.

Having celebrated 100 years in business in 2009, Johnsons has gone from strength to strength – winning numerous Coach Industry Awards along the way.

But despite travelling everywhere from Stratford to Switzerland, the pair insist the company is still very much a family firm with family values.

John said: “Our company motto is ‘Travel with Johnsons… Travel with Friends’ and we keep this in our mind’s eye with everything we do.

“We believe the only way to guarantee a great customer experience is to make sure our staff who look after them are happy and fulfilled in their work.”

And Peter added: “Over the years we’ve built up a great reputation and an impressive fleet without compromising on our friendly family style.

“We’re big enough to offer job security, career progression and training, while still being small enough to keep that familiar and personal feel.”

And there is double cause for celebration as mother Joan, who still works in the business, is set to celebrate 45 years of service later this year.
