RANDY by name, and certainly by nature.
Staff at Hatton Adventure World are preparing for a baby boom after a male guinea pig found his way into the female enclosure and made 100 of them pregnant.
And with guinea pigs giving birth to average litters of four, there could be 400 sets of tiny feet running around the popular attraction’s guinea pig village in the coming weeks.
Staff are still not sure how the rampant two-year-old rodent found his way into the ladies pen as they are usually careful to keep the sexes apart. It is thought a youngster might have accidently placed Randy back in the wrong enclosure after cuddling him.
Whatever the reason, Randy obviously made the most of the error, and staff believe he could have been courting the girls for as long as three weeks.
Farm manager Richard Craddock said: ‘One of our male guinea pig managed to find his way into the female enclosure and had a very good time by the looks of it.
“We suspect a child may have placed him back in the wrong pen by accident after stroking him or Randy may have somehow broken out of his enclosure to get to the females.
“We believe that the newly-named Randy could have impregnated up to 100 female guinea pigs, which have litters of about four, so if you do the maths we could be expecting quite a baby boom.”
Staff are now looking to build an extension to the guinea pig farm to accommodate Randy’s huge new family, with the current guinea pig world population of 300 set to more than double.
Randy is none the worse for his love marathon, although he has lost a little weight report staff.
