VETS are urging pet owners to stay on top of seasonal issues such as ticks, fleas and allergies by offering free advice and spring health checks throughout May and June.
Avonvale Veterinary Centres, which has surgeries in Leamington, Warwick, Stratford, Kenilworth, Southam and Wellesbourne, will give animal owners the opportunity to visit one of its trained veterinary nurses to discuss the best ways to keep pets flea and tick-free throughout the summer.
Also on offer will be advice on how to spot and prevent particular issues likely to occur at this time of year, such as poisoning by common gardening chemicals and how to maintain pets’ coats with a regular grooming routine.
Mark Taylor, clinical director at Avonvale, said: “It’s great we are finally getting some warmer weather and that summer is just around the corner. Most pets love nothing more than spending time outdoors with their owners but, unfortunately, this also brings about its own challenges.
“As well as putting a spring in our step, the warmer weather also makes ticks more active and provides greater opportunities for fleas to spread between animals.
“It’s also a little-known fact that animals are just as likely as humans to suffer from seasonal allergies and we can advise owners on how to relieve some of their pets’ symptoms of this problem, too.
“There are many effective treatments available for all the issues which come with the spring and summer months, and we’re delighted to be offering our free wellbeing checks to help pet owners choose the most effective way to help their pets.”
