Artists go for gold at milestone celebration

ARTISTS will be going for gold at a milestone event in Stratford.

STRADFAS (Stratford Decorative and Fine Art Society) is celebrating its golden jubilee this year during which the society’s national chief executive, Florian Schweizer, plans to raise money for art societies across the UK.

As well as giving a lecture at Stratford Play House – entitled As Good as Gold – on Thursday September 20, Mr Schweizer will be taking on a 10km run around the town.

Following the morning lecture, which starts at 11.45am, Stratford mayor John Bicknell will drop a golden flag in the Play House at 1.30pm to mark the start of the run.

The run – which will take in the Shakespeare houses and Holy Trinity Church – will be one of 50 the arts chief is taking on to raise awareness and funds for societies around the country.

He has raised almost half of his £50,000 target.

With about 550 members, STRADFAS is one of the largest organisations in the UK Arts Societies’ group.

Members are involved in conservation and heritage projects, documenting local churches, and funding art projects for young people and the community.
