THE TEAM at Anne Hathaway’s Cottage will play host to some prickly customers on Saturday (May 6).

Hedgehog Awareness Week will kick off with a day of activities including hedgehog house making, hedgehog trails, face painting and information and talks surrounding Shakespeare’s own fondness for the animals.

Straford schoolgirl trio Kyra Barboutis, Eve Green and Sophie Smith will be there to talk about their project Hedgehog Friendly Town, in which they care for poorly hedgehogs before returning them to the wild. The talks will take place at 11am, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm.

The girls will also advise how to ensure the safety of hedgehogs found in gardens as well as get crafty alongside resident artist Lisa Yardley.

House steward Emily White said: “We’re proud to work alongside the girls from Hedgehog Friendly Town, rehabilitating injured hogs and finding them a new home in the very grounds Shakespeare once walked through.

“Since November 2016 we have rehomed 21 hedgehogs and are excited to share our passion for these creatures with our visitors through fun activities for all the family to enjoy.”
