Young guns set the pace

THE ANNUAL cyclo-cross event on Kenilworth Common attracted hundreds of spectators and they will have been impressed with the performances of Stratford Cycling Club youngsters Lewis Tinsley and Spencer Corder.

There is a spectacular senior race preceded by youth races for under tens and under 12s and, with the two current Stratford stars Tinsley and Corder in great form, it was decided Tinsley would race in the under tens race and Corder, although still an under ten, would keep all his energy and have a go at beating the big boys in the under 12s race.

The plan worked a treat as Tinsley duly won the under tens race and then had a go at the under 12s race in which he finished fifth.

Corder then covered himself in glory (and a lot of mud) by winning the under 12s race.

From the records, it seems this is the first time the club has had a winner in this event and shows just how the club’s youngsters are going from strength to strength.

In the senior event SCC’s Nigel Jones came fifth in the 50+ category and Mark Ellis finished 23rd in the 40-plus event.
