Walker: "Sky Blues can match any Championship rival"

MATCH-WINNER Tyler Walker says Coventry City are capable of going toe-to-toe with any Championship rival on their day, after netting the brace that downed Brentford in Saturday’s 2-0 victory.

The 24-year-old opened his account with a 19th-minute penalty following a foul on Maxime Biamou, beating the perpetrator and Bees goalkeeper David Raya with an arrowed spot kick into the bottom corner.

And in a game that was not short of goal-scoring opportunities, it was the Sky Blues who doubled their advantage when Walker escaped his marker before burying a strike nine minutes into the second half, pushing Coventry five points clear of the drop zone.

City were once again brave in their attacking approach, despite the visitors sitting pretty in second going into the Championship clash, something which the Sky Blues forward points to as one of the deciding factors in claiming Coventry’s eighth three-point haul this term.

“We took the game to Brentford instead of letting it come to us, we have got to build on it now and go again,” said Walker.

“Anyone can beat anyone and they are a top team and are up there for a reason.

“We have got to not be scared and I believe in the team, I think we should believe in ourselves – we are good players and we can mix it with anyone.

“It is about getting points on the board and we worked really hard to a man and got a deserved three points against a top team.”

Last weekend’s result was a significant one on a personal level for Walker, who managed 78 minutes on his third match back in the team having recovered from a hip injury suffered in late December, with Wednesday’s trip to Swansea City offering the latest opportunity to step up his match sharpness.

“In a couple games I will be 100 percent and it is just good to get the minutes in and points on the board,” he added.

“It’s not the way I pictured it and has been a bit stop and start, hopefully I can get a run of games now and help to get some points on the board.

“They don’t get any easier and we have got to have belief in ourselves we can mix it with the big teams in this league and we will go there (Swansea City) trying to bring the three points home.”
