Tinsel Tournament provides hockey enjoyment

HOCKEY at Shipston High School continues to go from strength to strength and this was evidenced when the Tinsel Tournament provided a festive ending to the autumn term.

The evening of hockey involved more than 70 students in competition in teams appropriately named for the festive period – Angels, Baubles, Elves, Puddings, Reindeers and Turkeys.

Teams were made up of mixed years and involved both boys and girls and each game was played in excellent spirit, enabling players to show the skills they have learnt and developed during the term.

All games proved to be very tight, with the eventual winner being the Turkeys. Prizes were also awarded for the best festive outfit and the winners were George Turner and Freddie Clemons.

PE teacher Sarah Davies said: “Each year group have enjoyed fixtures against a range of local schools, with more scheduled in the spring term.

“Recent successes include year 11 finishing South Warwickshire tournament runners-up and the year nine team finishing third in the area.

“The students have displayed great commitment to the sport and their hard work is being rewarded. Hopefully hockey will continue to be a great strength at Shipston High.”
