Time trialling takes centre stage

Stratford Editorial 25th Apr, 2019   0

THE TIME trial season is well and truly under way following Stratford Cycling Club’s recent open ten-mile time trial on the K33/10D course – Dunnington/Norton/Alcester.

Popularity in time trialling has been growing in recent years following the success of the British contingent of cyclists including Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas and Bradley Wiggins.

Indeed, there were 112 entrants from as far afield as Southampton to Staffordshire and it was the first competition of the new season for many riders.

The route takes riders from Dunnington, southwards to Norton then left, going through Salford Priors then left again and finishing just before the River Arrow.

The wind was in the most challenging direction for the course – windiest for the earlier starters – which was when the ladies were racing. Riders were visibly toiling in the middle three-mile section which was into a headwind.

Notable leading results were as follows: Junior female – Katie Pamphlett (Banbury Star, 30:14); Junior male – Tom Portsmouth (Charlotteville CC, 20:59); Senior female – Anna Morris (Uni Southampton RC, 22:46); Senior male – Xavier Disley (Aero Coach, 21:04); Veteran female – Liz Powell (Drag2Zero, 22:28); Veteran male – David Kiernan (Race Rapid, 20:26).

Team winners – Team Echelon (Jon Howard, David Dickerson and Dan Geisler).

Stratford Cycling Club had a number of riders out on the day, with the best SCC competitor being Martin Millington with a time of 23:18.

Other SCC: Mick Stallard – 23:29; Matt Mitchell – 24:06; Stephen Eggleton – 24:12; Dan Smith – 24:31; Gerard Adams – 25:09; Michael Warner – 25:12; Keith Fitzgerald – 28:48; Declan Logue – 30:02.
