Third-placed finishes are a great reward

Stratford Editorial 14th Jan, 2020   0

THE TWO-DAY England Squash national tournament co-hosted by Stratford Squash Club and Freedom Leisure Warwick proved a big hit.

The inaugural England Squash Bronze Junior Open featured three age groups playing at Stratford, namely under 11 boys, under 11 girls and and under 13 girls.

Points are awarded to each player which effects their national rankings, so 40 matches were played throughout the day to establish their position in the tournament.

Stratford’s juniors did exceptionally well to finish in third place in each of the events courtesy of Oliver Hill in the under 11 boys, Lucy Mayers in the under 13 girls and Poppy Spicer in the under 11 girls.

Thanks go to Phil Sheepy of FSL Projects which sponsored the event at both venues. It is hoped this will be the first of many junior national tournament to be held at Stratford Squash Club.
