Teaming up to increase talent levels

SHIPSTON Ladies Hockey Club is looking to the future having joined forces with Shipston High School in a bid to recruit young players from the Darlingscote Road school.

The school already has a strong hockey club led by Maria Smith, who is supported by Joey Squance from the ladies club, and it attracts more than 40 pupils each week.

During the summer, the ladies club hosted training sessions which gave pupils the chance to play at club standard, which proved to be very popular among the youngsters.

They have since gone from strength to strength and regularly compete against other schools in the area, enjoying great success over a range of year groups.

The club is now hoping its new partnership will not only help the school team progress thanks to the support of experienced players, but also allow them to build for the future as they steer the club forward in Division Three of the Warwickshire League.
