STRATFORD Triathlon Club juniors split up to take on two races on Sunday when the youth category athletes competed in the Phoenix Sprint Triathlon at Ragley Hall and the remainder travelled to Telford to take part in the Wrekin College Aquathlon, part of the West Midlands Series.

Seven junior athletes took part in the Wrekin College Aquathlon consisting of a pool swim followed by a run. First up for the club was Martha Bullock in the Tri Star Start category (50m swim/600m run). Martha kicked off the day in style, exiting the pool in first place and extending the gap even further on the run to finish in first place in a time of 4 minutes, 26 seconds.

The Tri Star 3 athletes were the next to take to the course (300m swim/2,400metre run). Ellie Deaner finished fifth in a time of 15 minutes, 46 seconds.

Next up were the Tri Star 1 athletes (150m swim/1,200metre run). Stratford were represented by Jake Deaner who finished in a fabulous third position, earning the second trophy of the day for the club in a time of 8 minutes, 11 seconds.

Juliette Marshall finished 17th in a time of 12 minutes, 12 seconds.

Three Stratford athletes competed in Tri Star 2. In the girls’ race Charlotte Marshall finished ninth in a time of 12 minutes, 37 seconds and Molly Bullock ran a fabulous race to finish third in a time of 11 minutes, 29 seconds to secure the final trophy of the day for Stratford – a result even more impressive given she is in the younger year of a two-year age category.

Theo Skirvin finished seventh in a time of 11 minutes, 56 seconds.

The youth category athletes raced closer to home at Ragley Hall in the Phoenix Sprint Triathlon and the club continued to pick up trophies thanks to some excellent performances.

The race consisted of a 750m open water swim followed by a 24km bike course and 5km run. In the Junior category (17 to 19-year-olds) Seren Mahon finished second in the female race (1 hour, 38 minutes, 30 seconds) and Sebastian Hopper finished first in the men’s race in a time of 1 hour, 27 minutes, 41 seconds.

In the Youth category (under 17s) Stratford were represented by Ben Jones who finished first in the men’s race in a time of 1 hour, 20 minutes, 15 seconds and Abbie Wootton also finished first in the ladies’ race in a time of 1 hour, 31 minutes, 22 seconds.
