Stratford club president pays tribute as Lunel scoops men's sculls title

Tim Lunel was the eventual victor of last year’s competition.

THE LONG-AWAITED outcome of the 2020 President’s Sculls men’s competition at Stratford Boat Club finally became known recently, as Tim Lunel scooped the over-running title from last year.

With lockdown restrictions preventing members from training and competing up until the past few weeks, the trophy finally ended up in the hands of Lunel after a compelling final with Rory Nicol.

The tournament, which has built in popularity in more recent years as a sculling event and includes separate competitions in the women’s and juniors ranks, was paid tribute to by Paul Stanton – current club president – who views the annual event as a key component of the ethos at Stratford.

“We hope that the President’s Sculls award will continue to inspire all members to carry on sculling at a high level and further contribute to all sections of the club, in mixing and communicating with each other,” he said.

“Our congratulations go to Tim, and our thanks go to all those who supervised this final by marshalling and safety spotting on the bank.

“We are now looking forward to running the junior heats of the competition very shortly.”
