STRATFORD-upon-Avon RFC returned to winning ways with a seven-try 43-0 bonus point victory against struggling Malvern.

Andy Oliver crossed twice for the home side while James Walton, Jacob Kinnaird, Jonny Smith, Gwil Davies and Nath Geekie all touched down at Pearcecroft.

The result means Stratford sit sixth in the Regional 2 Midlands West table.

A powerful early tackle forced Malvern to knock-on as Stratford quickly moved the ball to the left which allowed Oliver to score the game’s first try in the corner after just five minutes.

And the home side scored their second try following a quick counter attack, working the ball from left to right, before a flick out the back by Davies allowed Walton to run in and dot down.

Stratford extended their lead on 35 minutes when Oliver crossed for his second of the game in the left corner from a move which began on the home side’s own five-metre line.

And after Malvern turned down a number of penalty chances within range of the posts to no avail, the home side took a 17-point lead into the break.

Stratford picked up where they left off at the start of the second period as Kinnaird found space down the blindside to touch down with Davies’ conversion attempt dropping underneath the bar.

Soon after, despite missing touch with a penalty, Stratford quickly turned the ball over and broke the line as Walton offloaded to Smith who crashed over.

The home side added another try when Davies stepped inside before producing a pirouette and a couple of hand-offs as he forced the ball over the line to the right of the posts.

And Stratford completed the scoring when Geekie received a short pass to the left of the ruck and squeezed between two defenders to dot down.

Stratford are next in action away at Berkswell and Balsall on Saturday, March 2 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Honiley Road.
