STRATFORD-upon-Avon RFC secured a third successive home victory with a 22-12 success against high-flying Stow-on-the-Wold.

A 17-point haul from Dan Whitby and further try from Jo Cook saw Stratford returning to winning ways at Pearcecroft.

Whitby dotted down twice and added seven points from the kicking tee while Cook also touched down in a three-try victory.

The result means Stratford sit 11th in the Regional 2 Midlands West table.

Stratford scored the game’s first try when Whitby plucked a stray pass out of the sky and ran in from 30-yards out but could not convert his own score.

And the home side extended their lead as Cook collected Gwil Davis’ pass and ran a reverse line to the posts as Whitby added the extras.

Whitby stretched Stratford’s lead early in the second half when he kicked a penalty after Stow-on-the-Wold lost a player to the sin-bin.

Stow eventually troubled the scoreboard when back to a full contingent of players with an unconverted try.

However, Stratford took the game away from their opponents as John Burns passed to Whitby who dotted down his second try in front of the posts and duly kicked the conversion.

The visitors responded with a consolation try with the final play of the game as Stratford claimed an impressive victory against the third-placed side in the division.

Stratford are next in action against Silhillians on Saturday, March 21 with kick-off at 3pm at Pearcecroft.
