DAN Whitby’s remarkable 32-point individual haul helped Stratford-upon-Avon RFC to a comprehensive 62-20 win against lowly Worcester.

Whitby scored two tries and added 22 points from the kicking tee while Charlie Powell also crossed twice with Angus Wightman, Andy Oliver, Oli Thorneywork and Michael Dawes all dotting down at Pearcecroft.

The result means Stratford sit fourth in the Regional 2 Midlands West table after recording a fifth successive victory.

Stratford scored the game’s first try against the run of play as Powell touched down unopposed after intercepting the ball inside his own 22 and Whitby added the extras.

Worcester responded with two quickfire penalties only for Whitby to successfully kick two penalties of his own to restore Stratford’s seven-point lead.

And Wightman then dotted down to extend Stratford’s lead before Worcester scored their first try from a driving maul.

However, Whitby carved a hole in the Worcester defence to dot down his first try of the game on the stroke of half time before converting his own score.

The visitors closed the gap to seven points with a try at the start of the second period only for some fast hands to set Powell away for his second try soon after as Whitby kicked the conversion.

And a clever kick from Nathan Geekie took the game out of Worcester’s reach as Oliver showed excellent footwork to dribble the ball down the touchline before touching down with Whitby converting.

Replacement Thorneywork then scored his first try for the club with Whitby adding the extras before Dawes and Whitby both crossed at the death with the latter converting both tries.

Stratford are next in action away at Ludlow on Saturday, December 9 with kick-off at 2.15pm at The Linney.
