STRATFORD-upon-Avon RFC ended their six-game losing run with a 29-7 bonus point victory against Whitchurch.
Tries from Gwilym Davis, Jack Young, Tom Houlahan and a penalty score helped Stratford to a much-needed win at Pearcecroft.
The result means Stratford sit eighth in the Regional 2 Midlands West table.
Both sets of players observed a minute’s silence prior to kick-off ahead of Remembrance Sunday.
Stratford made a fast start as Davis scored the game’s first try after just two minutes following good work from Houlahan, Nathan Geekie and Andy Oliver as Dan Whitby kicked the conversion.
And the home side doubled their lead later in the half as Young applied the finishing touch to a driving maul from a lineout as Whitby again added the extras.
Whitchurch had a player sent to the sin-bin before Stratford struck again after the referee awarded the home side a penalty try following a series of scrums as the visitors lost another player to a yellow card in the process.
The away side responded before the interval with a converted try of their own only for Whitby to kick a penalty to send Stratford into the break with a 17-point lead.
And the hosts scored their bonus point try three minutes from time when Houlahan dove on debutant Ethan Cook’s grubber kick close to the corner.
Stratford are next in action against Shipston on Stour on Saturday, November 16 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Mayo Road.
