STRATFORD-upon-Avon RFC earned a third straight win with a bonus point 28-5 victory against Old Halesonians.

Tries from Nathan Geekie and Jamie Jones and two penalty tries helped Stratford to back-to-back home wins at Pearcecroft.

The result means Stratford sit fourth in the Regional 2 Midlands West table.

Stratford scored the game’s first try when Geekie burst through two defenders to score and Dan Whitby kicked the extras after good work from Gwil Davis and Laurence Birch.

However, Old Halesonians responded soon after with their only try of the game after Stratford lost Michael Dawes to the sin-bin for a seat belt tackle.

The home side held firm during the remainder of Dawes’ sin-bin period.

And Stratford extended their lead with a penalty try after the referee penalised Old Halesonians for a deliberate knock-on which prevented a try.

The visitors had a player sent to the sin-bin early in the second half for repeated infringements close to the try line as Whitby uncharacteristically pulled a penalty to the left of the posts.

However, the referee awarded Stratford a second penalty try following a dominant scrum which forced an Old Halesonians player to tackle Charlie Billings from an offside position.

The away side lost another player to the sin-bin for dissent and Stratford eventually scored their bonus point try as Jones fell on the ball over the line following another huge scrum.

Whitby kicked the extras from a tight angle to put the seal on a third successive win for the home side.

Stratford are next in action against Ludlow on Saturday, October 11 with kick-off at 3pm at The Linney.
