STRATFORD-upon-Avon RFC secured back-to-back home wins for the first time this season following a 17-5 victory against Hereford.

Tries from Jack Young, Jake Lowe and Michael Dawes earned Stratford just their third win of the season at Pearcecroft.

The result means Stratford sit eighth in the Regional 2 Midlands West table.

Storm Darragh made Hereford’s pitches unplayable with the game switched to Stratford’s Pearcecroft ground.

And the visitors made a fast start in difficult conditions as Hereford dotted down the game’s first try after just five minutes.

Stratford responded by pinning Hereford inside their own 22 and forced a knock-on to secure a five-metre scrum.

And the home side drove Hereford back towards their own line before Young touched down with Dan Whitby’s conversion blowing to the left of the posts.

Hereford had a player sent to the sin-bin soon after before Lowe took the ball out of a ruck and over the line after good work from Whitby who converted the score.

Stratford stretched their lead before half time following a period of sustained pressure on the Hereford line as Dawes crashed over the line.

Playing conditions worsened after the break with neither side able to trouble the scoreboard further as Stratford overcame the league’s bottom club.

Stratford are next in action against Cheltenham on Saturday, December 14 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Pearcecroft.
