STRATFORD-upon-Avon RFC ran in seven tries in a 45-15 success against bottom of the table Berkswell and Balsall.

Tom Howard and Charlie Powell ran in two tries apiece while Chris Bolton, Dan Whitby and Jake Lowe also crossed in a comprehensive victory at Pearcecroft.

Some six teams representing seven clubs impeccably observed a minute’s silence prior to kick-off to remember those who lost their lives in wars and conflicts around the world serving the country.

This saw Claverdon and Stratford Barbarians Colts, Harbury Colts, Shottery RFC and Stratford’s first and second XV’s stand together in remembrance.

The club also remembered ‘the lost XV’ after 15 Stratford players lost their lives in the fields of Flanders during World War I.

Stratford scored the game’s first try as Bolton finished off a flowing move and Whitby kicked the extras.

And the home side quickly doubled their lead as Howard pounced on a loose ball and ran in from his own 22-metre line with Whitby again converting.

However, the visitors hit back with a converted try of their own only for Nathan Geekie to produce a superb solo run from the restart and set up Whitby for Stratford’s third try.

A late penalty kept the away side in the contest heading into the break before Powell dotted down after neat play on the blindside.

And Howard then crossed for his second try of the game before Berkswell and Balsall hit back with a converted try of their own.

However, after an enthusiastic celebration following the try, the visitors had a player sent off and lost another player after Lowe responded with a brilliant try for Stratford.

And Powell’s second try of the game completed the scoring as Stratford went from one end of the pitch to the other.

Stratford are next in action away at Hereford on Saturday, November 18.
