HARBURY RFC secured a second successive club-record win in as many weeks after romping to a remarkable 112-0 victory against Pinley.

After putting 105 points past Kings Norton the previous weekend, Harbury went one try better against Pinley as the home side touched down 18 times at Waterloo Fields.

Both Toby Whelan and Ricky Alford scored hat-tricks while Chris Milburn, Ciaran O’Connor, Thomas Arnold and Rory Pond all dotted down twice.

Further tries from Tom Allen, Gaz Evans, Jason Wood and a penalty try, along with nine conversions from Alford, helped Harbury achieve another club-record success.

The result means Harbury remain second in the Counties 3 Midlands West (South) table, four points behind leaders Stoke Old Boys with a game in-hand.

Harbury made a fast start as Milburn scored the game’s first try after just three minutes before Whelan dotted down after jinking his way to the line.

And Milburn scored his second try of the game soon after before Allen touched down his first try of the season from Charlie Allerton’s flicked pass out the back of the hand.

Those tries saw Harbury secure a try bonus point after just 11 minutes with Alford converting two of the four scores.

Pinley had a player sent to the sin bin for a slide tackle following Whelan’s try and Harbury made the most of the extra man to take the game away from the visitors.

First, O’Connor ran from inside his own half to touch down before Alford crossed and converted his own score on the quarter-hour mark.

A stunning first-half display continued when Evans crashed over from a yard out before Whelan scored his second try of the game following a well-executed set-piece move.

And front rowers Joseph Cummings and Wood combined for Harbury’s next try as the former sent the latter away down the wing.

The tries continued to flow as O’Connor superbly muscled his way to the line through several Pinley players from 20-metres out to score his second of the game.

Harbury finished the first half with another couple of tries to take their tally to 12 before the break as Alford and Arnold dotted down to give the home side a staggering 76-0 lead at the interval.

The hosts were quick out of the blocks in the second period as Pond scored two quickfire tries after setting up Arnold to touch down in-between.

Alford completed his hat-trick with a try from close range before Harbury were awarded a penalty try after Will Higgins made a crunching tackle and was hauled down illegally.

Whelan was next to complete his hat-trick after Henry Steele and Cummings made an excellent break as Alford moved onto 33 points for the match with a successful conversion attempt.

And Arnold touched down and converted his own try to complete the scoring as the referee ended the game early after Pinley lost a player to injury.

Harbury are next in action at home to Old Yardleians on Saturday, March 2 at Waterloo Fields on the club’s Vice President’s Day.
