CLAVERDON RFC recovered from a half-time deficit to thrash Coventry Welsh 50-23 in a seven-try bonus point victory.

A second-half hat-trick from Calvin Lynch inspired the visitors to victory at Burbages Lane while Jimbo Williams, James Gibney and Steve Grimsley also crossed for tries.

And the result means Claverdon sit fifth in the Counties 2 Midlands West (East) table, just two points behind leaders Bromsgrove II.

The visitors flew out of the blocks to score the game’s first try in the opening few minutes.

However, Coventry turned the game on its head with two tries before the break as the home side capitalised on uncharacteristic handling errors and lapses in concentration to take the lead.

Claverdon reduced the deficit to a single point at the interval as Williams intercepted a pass and ran in from 70-metres out to score a memorable try.

The visitors improved after the break as Gibney and Lynch crossed for tries early in the second period to put Claverdon in command.

And Lynch crossed twice more to complete a second-half hat-trick before Grimsley grounded the ball at the back of a powerful maul to complete the scoring.

Claverdon are next in action against Barkers Butts on Saturday, November 22 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Ossetts Hole Lane.
