RUGBY UNION - Alcester whitewashed in friendly defeat

ALCESTER RFC concluded their pre-season campaign with a 38-0 defeat against Shipston under the floodlights at Mayo Road.

The visitors fielded a team predominantly made up of second XV players and conceded five tries without reply in the first half.

And Alcester struggled for a foothold in the game as a number of handling errors meant they went into the break having failed to trouble the scoreboard.

Alcester improved after the break but were unable to score a try as Shipston added one more try to their total as Jamie Clarke and Ieuan Hopkin impressed for the visitors.

Alcester begin their first ever season as a level seven club with a trip to Old Leamingtonians on Saturday, September 2 with kick-off at 3pm at The Crofts.

All of the club’s age group teams, both senior and junior, are looking for more players ahead of the new season.
