ALCESTER RFC began the New Year with a dominant 35-5 bonus home victory against Leamington in a five-try success.

The home side eased to victory thanks to tries from Jamie Clarke, Josh O’Connor, Ed Gough, Kyran Flynn and Jack Green at Kings Coughton.

And the result means Alcester sit sixth in the Counties 1 Midlands West (South) table.

Alcester took an early three-point lead courtesy of Gough’s penalty before Dwayne Cruickshank offloaded to Clarke who dotted down out wide with Gough kicking the extras from the touchline.

Leamington scored their only try just before the half-hour mark despite Alcester appealing for a forward pass in the build-up to the try.

However, Alcester responded before the break as O’Connor fended off three defenders with a powerful run to the line with the conversion attempt just falling short.

Alcester stretched their lead with a penalty early in the second half before having a try disallowed for a double movement.

The home side eventually crossed for their third try when Gough went over before converting his own score.

And Flynn then picked up the ball from the back of a ruck to score Alcester’s bonus point try before Green powered over to complete the scoring.

Alcester are next in action away at Old Coventrians on Saturday, January 13 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Tile Hill Lane.
