ROWING - Stratford-upon-Avon Boat Club host successful Junior Sprint Regatta

STRATFORD-upon-Avon Boat Club hosted their Junior Sprint Regatta as the event returned for the first time in two years.

The event, sponsored by Stratford Self Store, was well attended with 12 crews from across the country taking part.

And new Mayor of Stratford-upon-Avon, Cllr Gill Cleeve was in attendance throughout the day.

Racing began at 8.30am as junior rowers took to the River Avon in cool and calm conditions before a brief rain shower arrived later in the morning.

And races were competed over a 500-metre stretch of the river that began with a turn at the Holy Trinity Church before rowing up river and finishing by the Tramway Bridge.

A staggering 163 races took place this year across 37 events and was enjoyed by all with clubs noisily supporting their rowers from the bank.

The competing clubs were: A.B. Severn BC, Cheltenham College, Dragon School BC, Evesham Rowing Club, King Edward VI School BC, Kings School Worcester BC, Magdalen College School BC, Nottingham and Union Rowing Club, Ross Rowing Club, Stratford-upon-Avon BC, Worcester Rowing Club and Worcester Royal Grammar.
