A PARA-ROWER from Stratford-upon-Avon Boat Club represented Great Britain at the World Rowing Cup in Varese, Italy.

Curtis Dickens, who rows for Stratford’s adaptive squad, competed for Team GB for the first time in the prestigious international competition.

Dickens faded towards the end of his heat in the PR2 men’s single sculls after making a fast start to finish sixth in the preliminary race.

He improved his position to finish fifth in the final as Ireland took gold with Uzbekistan second and Turkey third.

Stratford’s head adaptive coach, Mark Dewdney said: “A Stratford developed para-rower finishing fifth in a World Cup event.

“And five wins out of six adaptive events at Marlow which is one of the largest such events on the calendar.

“I think that qualifies as a good weekend for Stratford’s adaptive squad.”
