STRATFORD-upon-Avon Boat Club’s masters squad travelled to the National Water Sports Centre to compete in the Nottingham Regatta.

The event provides the rowers with a benchmark for the British Masters event which takes place later in the season.

Stratford’s 2x crew finished a close third in their race with Susie Radley and Amanda Bowden in second place up until the midway point.

However, the pair lost momentum around the 600m mark and could not reclaim the position.

Stratford’s 4x enjoyed a good row until 250m from the line when they clipped a buoy which left them unable to continue.

Stratford’s VIII struggled to match the race pace on a bigger stage with many of Stratford’s squad competing against established crews for the first time.

Masters vice-captain, Bowden said: “We gave it our all. I’m very proud of everybody’s efforts, if you don’t attempt the bigger races then you don’t know what to aim for.

“I am especially proud of the women’s squad for stepping up to compete but also recognising that they are not quite ready for the big events yet, the pressure is very different.”
