STRATFORD-upon-Avon Boat Club’s junior scullers competed on the River Thames in the Hampton Small Boats Head.
The action took place over a twisty 3,000m stretch of the Thames between Sunbury and Hampton.
Stratford’s J17/18 squad raced in single and double sculls events.
In the single sculls, Alexandra Francis delivered a strong performance to finish in second place with teammate Poppy Baines lower in the rankings.
And in the WJ17 double sculls, the crews of Martha Cooke and Martha Baines and Millie Smith and Maeve Dunn came home fourth and fifth respectively.
Stratford pair Cooke and P Baines stepped up an age group in their race to finish eighth in a field of 20 crews.
Francis and Tessa Parkin went even quicker to finish fourth just behind Peterborough City Rowing Club.
Stratford’s five-strong J16 performance boys squad also impressed on the non-tidal stretch of the Thames.
In Division One, Seb Happel, Will Shaw, Ed Appleton and Rory Rowan finished 11th overall in the OJ16 4x- event.
And in Division Two, Will Shaw and Euan Richter placed ninth overall in the OJ16 2x event out of 24 crews.
In the O16 1x event, Ed Appleton came sixth overall out of 23 crews while Euan Richter finished 13th.
Stratford’s J16 lead coach, Hugo Happel said: “The athletes showed great discipline and attitude, good technique and achieved great results on this maiden event for them.
“The Thames got very narrow at times with plenty of overtaking but they steered and sculled well. Well done to all athletes.”
