STRATFORD-upon-Avon Boat Club athletes competed at regatta’s in Stourport, Peterborough and Maidenhead.

The club’s scullers competed across various age groups at Stourport Boat Club’s annual regatta.

Stratford’s J16 squad double scull of Josephine Cooper and Bryony Francis faced off against local rivals Evesham.

And Cooper and Francis executed their race plan perfectly to take the win despite an errant masters double scull straying onto the 1,000m course.

Stratford’s women’s masters also competed in four events at Stourport with the masters VIII competing as a scratch crew.

Coxed by Jen Cary, the crew comprised of Rebecca England at stroke, Jeanette Caldecott, Lucy Scarlett, Fiona Schulz, Katie Burman, Abby Symons, Caroline Collins, and Charlotte Jones at bow.

Stratford crossed the line in second place, just failing to chase down an older crew from Bewdley who had a 10-second head start.

The club also competed in the WMas 4+ category E race with the crew comprising Collins, Symons, Burman, and Jones.

Rowing together for the first time, the crew suffered defeat against a more experienced crew from Warwick.

The WMasE 2x of Ellie Davis (stroke) and Gina Fusco (bow) struggled for rhythm in their race against eventual event winners Derwent.

And cox Cary, England, Caldecott, Scarlett and Schulz then raced in the WMasB4+ event against another Bewdley crew who had a head start.

Stratford gained on their opposition and reduced the deficit but could not quite catch their opposition.

England and Scarlett also raced in the masters women’s A 2x event against Furnivall Sculling Club.

The Stratford pair made a strong start and Scarlett steered a fantastic line around the bend.

With the Stratford crew in the lead, England and Scarlett eventually finished four-and-a-half lengths clear of their opponents.

Elsewhere, at the Peterborough Regatta, Stratford’sWMasD2- of Suzie Radley and Amanda Bowden raced on the 1km course.

The pair used the race as part of their preparations for the World Rowing Masters Regatta in Banyoles, Spain in September.

Radley and Bowden finished in a time of 4 minutes 7 seconds and made improvements from their previous race.

Elsewhere, Stratford’s adaptive squad took to the water at the Maidenhead Regatta in a mixture of singles and doubles events.

Adaptive athlete Jordan Clark won his final by five lengths at his first regatta with rowing partner Aron Altman.

Altman also partnered Gillian Middleton for another race win.

Stratford’s head adaptive coach, Mark Dewdney said: “We were a bit sloppy in our organisation for the event and sport always finds you out.

“We have had a better season than envisaged and are bringing on a number of new rowers.

“This will spur us on to be better the next time.”

Singles rower Jake Blatcher reached the final of his event only to suffer defeat in the final against a local sculler.
