STRATFORD-upon-Avon Boat Club’s masters double crew triumphed at the Chester Long Distance Sculls held on the River Dee.
The event raced over 5km attracted a strong field with the small boats head acting as a training ground for the upcoming London national small boats event.
Stratford’s mixed masters double of Tom Doherty and Rebecca England took on crews from the Midlands and the North of England.
Blustery conditions and a strong stream led to a lively race as a Pengwern crew chased down the Stratford double.
Both crews overtook a number of other small boats along the 5km course.
And Stratford increased their rate to 32 strokes per minute in a push for the line to take the race win and hold Pengwern at bay.
England said: “It was great to compete over a longer, more challenging course and come out with a positive result to start the head season.”
