STRATFORD-upon-Avon Boat Club’s J17/18 crew impressed competing at 2012 Olympic venue Dorney Lake at the Wallingford Regatta.

Junior rowers Maddie Hall, V Vondrak, Uch Nwachukwa, Kate Richardson and cox Imogen Hill competed in the coxed four event over a distance of 2,000 metres.

The Stratford crew coped well with a gusty head wind and recorded the third quickest time across three heats of six crews to secure their place in the final.

Conditions were perfect for the final with all six crews close together over the first 750 metres as Stratford stole fourth from Sir William Perkins by six inches following a heroic effort in the last 100 metres.

Wallingford and Henley eased ahead to finish first and second with Surbiton in third.

Stratford’s J17/J18 coach Sam Hill said: “Fourth at Wallingford is a very encouraging performance and the crew are improving every time they get in the boat.”
