STRATFORD-upon-Avon Boat Club’s WJ17 athlete, Alexandra Francis, competed in the first round of Junior GB trials.
Over 120 of the fastest female under-19 rowers in the country took to the water in Boston.
Francis met the threshold to attend the 5k water trial and made a strong start, showing off her technical prowess as she settled into the race.
She maintained her composure over the 5k distance to finish 76th overall.
J17 coach, Imogen North, said: “In a very competitive field with small margins between the athletes, this is a solid start for Alexandra.”
Elsewhere, Stratford Boat Club’s masters athlete, Tom Doherty, raced at Star Head on the Great Ouse river in Bedfordshire.
He finished second (on handicap adjustments) behind Yare Rowing Club in a time of 8 minutes 32 seconds over the 1,850m course.
Stratford’s masters vice-captain, Amanda Bowden, said: “The course can prove challenging to navigate, as the river passes under several bridges.
“Tom sculled a strong consistent race in windy conditions.”
Doherty added: “Not bad for my first ever single sculls race.”
