STRATFORD-upon-Avon Boat Club’s adaptive section entered two of its young SEND rowers into the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships.

The pair of Edward Owen-Smith and Lance Fowler won gold and silver respectively in the SEND Two Minute School Year 9 race.

In a field of 13 rowers, Owen-Smith won gold with a distance of 607 metres while Fowler took silver with 536 metres.

Both Owen-Smith and Fowler also won gold and silver at the British Indoor Rowing Championships last December.

Owen-Smith also competed in the Mainstream Four Minute Indoor Race and finished an impressive ninth with a distance on 1,167 metres in a field of 701 competitors.

This saw Owen-Smith achieve a world record for an intellectually impaired rower of his age – beating the previous record of 919 metres by 248 metres.

Stratford’s head adaptive coach, Mark Dewdney said: “I am very proud of them both. They both continue to amaze me.

“They train hard and ultimately that is where these results come from.”

Stratford’s adaptive section now holds 16 current indoor rowing world records.
