STRATFORD-upon-Avon Boat Club’s WJ18 four showed plenty of promise to storm to victory at the Wycliffe Big Head.
The WJ18 four of Kate Richardson, Uchenna Nwachukwu, Maddie Hall and Harriet Noyes and cox Imogen Hill rowed superbly to come home first in a time of 19 minutes 2.1 seconds.
And the young scullers outpaced a number of usually faster WJ18 quads to place first in the event over the 4.5km course.
That came after the J18 quad of Will Beattie, Tomi Wilcock, Charles Happel and Toby Sartain placed fourth in a time of 16 mins 16.3 secs in a field of 13 high level boats.
Just one of the club’s J16 squad made the trip to Wycliffe as the coxless quad of Lucy Sartain (stroke), Molly Vondrack, Scarlett Richardson and Aimee Appleton took on strong competition from AB Severn, Great Marlow School and Wallingford over the 4,500m course.
The crew settled into a good rhythm and paced the race well to set a time of 18 mins 23 secs which saw them finish fourth overall within just 24 seconds of the winning boat.
