OLYMPIC record-breaker Nick Skelton was honoured with another accolade at the British Showjumping Awards Ball.
The Rio gold medal winner collected the British Showjumping award at the organisation’s annual showpiece at the St Johns Hotel, Solihull.
Skelton, from Alcester, rode Big Star to glory in Rio, with Skelton becoming Britain’s oldest gold medallist since 1908.
He won an astonishing gold medal at the age of 58 in the individual jumping – the first GB gold in the discipline – after a six-person jump-off at the Olympic Equestrian Centre.
Big Star was also a winner in the Horse and Owner of the Year category with Gary and Beverley Widdowson, while Mark Beever, groom to Skelton, took the Top Level Team Grooms Award.
Robert Smith, from Shrewley, was presented with the National Champion’s award.
The evening brought together in excess of 400 guests celebrate with the extremely worthy nominees and winners from grass roots competitors through to those that achieved podium success.
