STRATFORD Triathlon Club’s Philippa Abrams surpassed expectations on an impressive middle distance debut at the Vitruvian.
Philippa was not convinced she would be able to make the ‘cut-off’, as middle distance triathlons involve a total distance of 70.3 miles consisting of swimming, cycling and a half marathon run.
Due to this long distance, most races have cut-off times, so anyone still running after eight hours of racing would be deemed to be a ‘non-finisher’.
However, Philippa shone in an electric atmosphere at Rutland Water. After exiting the 1.2-mile swim in just under 53 minutes, she headed out for the scenic two-lap bike ride.
After completing the 52-mile cycle ride in 3:39:17, well within the cut-off time, she then embarked upon the run which she finished with an overall 7:18:32 time to her name.
