Pearce flies the flag in style

DETERMINED not to sit around over the Easter holidays, Stratford Triathlon Club member Rachel Pearce headed to Oxfordshire to take part in the Good Friday Triathlon which was set in the scenic grounds of Radley College in Abingdon and she performed superbly to finish second lady overall and first in her age group, writes Victoria Jeffs.

Pearce showed what a crazy bunch of people triathletes can be, as hot on the heels of a half marathon five days previously she was not optimistic of putting in a good performance, however she put in a sterling effort to finish second lady overall.

In a field of over 300 participants, she can be justifiably proud after proving just how strong triathlon training can make you.

The pool-based swim was a good start with a steady performance before heading out into the glorious Oxfordshire countryside.

Despite the weather, she put her head down on the fast and flat bike course to power past many of her rivals, picking them off one by one.

Her transition times were what can only be described as awesome, with her T2 time (notoriously the most difficult) in the top ten of all competitors, men and women included.

Pearce headed off into the run for a 5km blast around the parkland to come first in her age group but more importantly second lady overall.

Rachel’s result: (sprint: 400m swim, 22km bike, 5km run – swim 7:35, T1 1:06, bike 43:00, T2 1:00, run 22:26 – total 1:14:08.
