Panthers suffer defeat as Worfield secure promotion

STRATFORD were left dreaming what might have been after losing the third of their promotion play-off contests.

The Panthers, who had won the Warwickshire League title, were sent to an eight-wickets defeat at home to Worfield, with the Shropshire side’s success sealing their place in the Birmingham Premier Division Two for the 2022 season.

Worfield, who led the table of the four county champions at the start of the day, after two winning draws in their first two games dismissed Stratford for 117 in 49.1 overs at Swans Nest Lane.

Matthew Rees (4-38), Ryan Quiney (3-31) and Will Weir (2-14) were dominant with the ball for Worfield.

Nick Pepper top-scored with 30 off 60 balls with Josh Colwell (20) and Gareth Langman (17) the only other batters to reach double figures.

Half-centuries from Ben Hudson (54) and Basit Zaman (51 not out) meant Worfield made light work of their target as they raced to victory in 20 overs.
