Outdoor team win festive match

Stratford Editorial 7th Dec, 2018   0

WARWICKSHIRE Women’s Bowling Association’s outdoor team’s annual Christmas match against their indoor counterparts is always very competitive and this year was no exception as the outdoor side took the honours with a 109-103 win.

Highest winning rink went to Jenny Corn (Lillington) with Janet Pooler (Stoke), Velisa Brown and Rosemarie Geden (both Southam) who were fairly evenly matched with their opponents to begin with but gradually pulled away to finish 22-13 up.

Maureen Edwards (Rugby Thornfield), Janice White (RLS), Ann Doherty (Lillington) and Di Medhurst (Stoke) started slowly and were trailing 10-5 at the tenth end, but kept their cool and pulled back in the second half to win 20-13.

Jean Hagues (Rugby Ladies) with Pippa Mace (Lillington), Chris Roberts and Helen Harris (Stoke) were trailing 13-8 on the tenth end but a final flourish over the last few ends made all the difference and helped them to a 20-18 win.

Brenda Carlton (Stoke) with Lynne Innes (Stratford), Mary Wheildon (Warwick Boat Club) and Dawn Horne (RLS) were fairly evenly matched with their opponents all the way through and just managed to hold on to win by just one shot, 16-15.

Carole Simmons (Welford) with Christine Harding (Rugby Thornfield), Margaret Grosvenor (Lillington) and Pat Harvey (Lillington), who shared the game with Carol Smith (Southam), were 9-5 down at ten ends and it was only a concerted effort in the second half which brought them to 14 all on the 20th end, but they lost two shots on the last end and finished 16-14 down.

Heather Tredgold (Southam) with Joy Cooke (Blossomfield), Jayne Henfrey (Lillington) and Debbie Bloxham (Stratford) were trailing 15-2 at the ninth end but seven shots on the ninth made all the difference and, although they were not to win, they put up a strong fight in going down 28-17.

The Christmas meal went down a treat and the best Christmas hat prize went to Velisa Brown, whose snowman was predominant throughout the game!
