Marosi pays ode to stand-in Wilson; accepts his fight for Coventry City place

GOALKEEPER Marko Marosi has heaped praise on stand-in replacement Ben Wilson during his spell between the Coventry City sticks – as the Slovakian nears his return to first-team action.

The 27-year-old has been out of action since a 1-0 win over Cardiff City in late November – following a collision with opposition captain Sean Morrison – which has allowed the Sky Blues’ deputy shot-stopper to shine in the weeks since that incident.

Wilson, 28, has kept four clean sheets and only conceded 11 goals in his 12 Championship appearances this season, meaning Coventry have remained assured in the goalkeeper department.

And with City’s number one back on the pitch with the under-23’s side in last week’s 3-1 defeat to Birmingham City, Mark Robins will not have to bide his time for too much longer before reconsidering Marosi for selection.

“It was really good to be back out there,” said the Slovakian.

“The result wasn’t great, but I had a lot to do and I was quite busy, so I was pleased with that and it was a good test for me after the injury I’ve had.

“After the operation [following a cheekbone fracture] I couldn’t really do anything and I had so much swelling, so I just had to sit at home.

“But I’ve been training now for a few weeks, and I feel great.”

With a double-header against Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City coming up this week, Marosi accepts that he will now have to fight to regain his place in the Coventry starting XI.

“I’m looking forward to competing with Ben for a spot,” he added.

“He’s been absolutely fantastic since he stepped in and I have to fight for that shirt.

“Me and Ben have a great relationship. We always support each other, [no matter] whoever’s in the net.

“He supported me for over a year whilst I was in, and now it’s my turn to support him and push him all the way.”
