AS THE eighth week of lockdown continues, the youngest members of Stratford Boat Club show no signs of letting up in their pursuit of the sport!

The J13 squad, comprising of 12 and 13-year-old athletes, are busy on a mixed programme of running, cycling, core exercises and of course time on the rowing machine.

In between training sessions, the group also has quality time catching up on classic races from the Henley Royal Regatta – a view into the future for these aspiring young rowers.

J13 lead coach and Stratford Boat Club’s junior co-ordinator, Steve Wellstead said: “I never cease to be amazed by the resilience and creativity of our athletes as they make our time away from the club more interesting.

“It’s amazing to think that just last August they were taking their first steps in the sport at our summer camps. We have everything crossed, hoping we can safely welcome more athletes to the club at this year’s camps in August.”

Stratford Boat Club has also got more tricks up its sleeve in how varying training – not only for the club’s junior section but also the senior section – and a weekly Zoom circuit session have been introduced, with the sessions graded for age, fitness and ability.
