STRATFORD Town lost at home for the first time since December following a 2-0 defeat against Stourbridge.

A brace from veteran striker Tyrone Barnett brought an end to the Bards seven-game unbeaten run at the Arden Garages Stadium.

The result means Stratford sit fifth in the Southern League Premier Central table, five points behind league leaders Bedford Town.

Stourbridge broke the deadlock on 16 minutes when Barnett rose highest to head home Jai Verma’s cross from the left at the back post.

The visitors almost struck again before the break as Jake Weaver produced a fine save to deny Ethan Freemantle when one-on-one.

Stratford went close to an equaliser early in the second half as Dan Lafferty headed Kasway Burton’s cross from the right inches past the post.

And Stourbridge doubled their lead on 53 minutes when Barnett scored his second of the game with a guided header into the corner past the despairing dive of Weaver.

The Bards searched for a way back into the game as Lewys Benjamin kept out Lafferty’s tame effort from 12-yards out.

And Callum Ebanks went close late on as Benjamin tipped his shot over the crossbar following Weaver’s long kick.

Stratford are next in action against Harborough Town on Saturday, March 15 with kick-off at 3pm at Harborough Town Community Football Ground.
