MANAGERLESS Stratford Town slipped to a disappointing 1-0 home defeat against relegation-threatened Hitchin Town on Tuesday night.
Rio Dasilva scored the game’s only goal on 65 minutes as Ian King’s side were unable to back up their weekend win at home to Leiston at the Arden Garages Stadium.
The result means Stratford sit 11th in the Southern League Premier Central table, 12 points clear of the relegation zone.
A breathless first half failed to produce a goal as both sides lacked quality in the final third of the pitch.
And the second period began in a similar vein until veteran striker Leroy Lita headed home from a free-kick only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.
Hitchin produced a moment of quality to take the points soon after when Dasilva calmly slotted past Liam O’Brien after he found space inside the penalty area.
The Canaries dominated proceedings thereafter with a succession of corners keeping Stratford pinned inside their own half as the Bards struggled to retain possession.
Stratford are next in action away at Rushall Olympic on Saturday, March 26 with kick-off at 3pm at Dales Lane.
