STRATFORD Town dropped to the bottom of the table following a 1-0 defeat away at Redditch United.

The Bards suffered a second straight defeat at the Valley Stadium as Alex Cameron’s first-half header settled the contest.

And the result means Stratford sit bottom of the Southern League Premier Central table.

Stratford came into the fixture off the back of a 3-0 home defeat against Banbury United on the opening day of the season.

Redditch made a quick start with Cameron unable to make clean contact with a shot in the box inside the first minute.

And Stratford then cleared Joe Hull’s header off the line from Reece Flanagan’s floated free-kick.

Flanagan then saw his shot hit the inside of the post and bounce agonisingly across the face of goal.

The Reds remained on top as Matty Warburton curled a low shot inches past the post.

Stratford responded with a chance of their own just past the half-hour mark as Tyrese Warmington made a crucial save when one-on-one with Ty Deacon.

The chances continued to flow as Robbie Bunn forced Bards goalkeeper Jake Weaver to tip a low shot to safety at full stretch.

Weaver came to Stratford’s rescue again soon after as he again denied Warburton.

However, the Reds eventually broke the deadlock on 41 minutes when Cameron leapt highest to head home Dexter Dudley-Toole’s cross.

The visitors searched for an equaliser after the break only to scoop an effort over the crossbar from inside the penalty area.

However, the Bards struggled to create another clear-cut chance to remain winless after two matches.

Stratford are next in action against Quorn on Saturday, August 16 with kick-off at 3pm at Farley Way.
