STRATFORD Town have confirmed the return of former captain Paul McCone who only departed the club earlier this summer.
McCone returns to the Arden Garages Stadium from Southern League Premier Central rivals Bromsgrove Sporting.
The 33-year-old left Stratford to become player-assistant manager at Sporting in June.
However, the defender has now returned to the Bards in a player-coach capacity after making just three appearances for the Rouslers.
He was sent off in his final game for Bromsgrove against Spalding United last weekend.
Stratford head coach, Paul Davis said: “Fantastic news. It is my absolute pleasure to officially welcome back a true Stratford Town favourite, Paul McCone.
“Paul is back where he belongs, stepping into a player-management role, and we couldn’t be more thrilled.
“A leader on the pitch and a firm fan favourite, his passion for this club is infectious, and he brings a winning mentality that will be crucial for us moving forward.”
Bards captain, Josh Hawker added: “How many times have we praised him? Which we always will and always have.
“I think every person who’s sees him walk through the door on Saturday will be thinking the same thing, what a sight to see him back.
“We were all sad to see him leaving the summer, but even more buzzing to see him back here.”
McCone previously made 127 appearances for Stratford and captained the club for two seasons.
