STRATFORD Town saw their winless run stretch to eight matches following a 2-0 home defeat against Halesowen Town in midweek.

A brace from Jason Cowley, who scored either side of half time, condemned the Bards to defeat at the Arden Garages Stadium.

The result means the Bards sit 13th in the Southern League Premier Central table.

Stratford’s game against Halesowen took place after the abandonment of the initial fixture between the two teams back in November earlier this season.

The original fixture was abandoned at half time following the death of Halesowen president Colin Brookes.

Brookes fell ill during the match and tragically passed away after receiving medical attention.

Both teams paid tribute to Brookes before the rescheduled game in midweek with a minute’s applause in his memory.

Once the game started, the Yeltz forced Bards goalkeeper Jake Weaver into a couple of fine saves as the shot-stopper kept the game scoreless.

And Halesowen eventually took the lead on 41 minutes when Cowley strode into the box and produced a clinical finish.

Cowley doubled his tally for the game after the break on 58 minutes when he headed in a cross from the left to leave the home side with a mountain to climb.

Stratford are next in action against Royston Town on Saturday, March 14 with kick-off at 3pm at the Arden Garages Stadium.
